Blue Proofs and Early Reader Reactions

We’re getting closer! The second wave of UK proofs for Peach Blossom Spring is out and the book has been finding more early readers. This blue proof is being sent to trade magazines, media, reviewers, bookbloggers, and other book industry people ahead of publication. It has a shiny cover with many great details, very similar to what will be the finished UK book jacket for the hardback.

The proof is also available on Netgalley, which is a service that provides electronic proofs to early readers. We’re starting to see a few reviews come in from Netgalley. It’s been a thrill to get the reactions of readers. Here are a few things people are saying:

‘There is an honesty in the writing that means your empathy for each character becomes strong and understanding. No one is a hero or a villain in this story, people are simply doing their best with what they have, what they know and what they can cope with. There is so much in this novel to ponder over, familial bonds and responsibilities, emigration and loyalty to both home and adoptive countries, but always with a great sense of acceptance and looking to the future.’

– Kate S, Netgalley Reviewer.

‘Melissa Fu takes an intricate journey through a complex period of 20th century history, of China, Taiwan, and the USA – and weaves a deeply engrossing, beautifully expressed, and exquisitely written story of love, loss, loneliness, courage, endurance – a whole panoply of human qualities which transports the reader. I couldn’t put it down.’

– Christine Miller, Media, Netgalley Reviewer.
